Evaluations

A deeper understanding of how you think, learn, and function.

No two minds work exactly alike, and no two evaluations should either. Our comprehensive assessments are tailored to each individual's unique cognitive profile, developmental history, and presenting concerns.

We look beyond test scores to understand how cognitive, academic, emotional, and environmental factors shape everyday functioning. By identifying both strengths and areas of difficulty, we provide meaningful insight and individualized recommendations that support learning, independence, and growth.

What to expect

An evaluation is a supportive process for the individual and their family. With your permission, we often speak with family members, teachers, and therapists to build a fuller picture.

  1. Initial Consultation

A 90 minute meeting to discuss concerns, developmental history, and goals for the evaluation.

  2. School Observation

When appropriate, classroom observations provide insight into learning, behavior, and social functioning in the school environment.

  3. Testing

Comprehensive testing typically involves 8 to 10 hours across multiple in person sessions, tailored to the individual's needs.

  4. Feedback

A 90 minute meeting to review findings, explain recommendations, and discuss next steps. Separate feedback sessions for children and adolescents are available when appropriate.

  5. Written Report

A comprehensive report integrating findings, diagnostic impressions, and individualized recommendations.

  6. Follow Up Consultation

When helpful, we collaborate with schools, therapists, physicians, and other providers to support implementation of recommendations.

Evaluations by age

  • Preschool

The preschool years bring new expectations for communication, social interaction, attention, and emotional regulation. Evaluations help clarify emerging developmental differences, identify areas requiring support, and guide early intervention and educational planning.

  • Elementary School

As academic demands increase, difficulties with reading, writing, mathematics, attention, or learning may become more apparent. Evaluations identify the underlying cognitive and academic factors contributing to these challenges and provide targeted recommendations for instruction and support.

  • Middle & High School

Increasing academic independence places greater demands on executive functioning, learning, and emotional regulation. Evaluations clarify the factors contributing to academic or organizational difficulties and help students develop strategies, access appropriate accommodations, and build independence.

  • College & Young Adulthood

The transition to college and adulthood introduces new demands on independence, organization, and self management. Evaluations help clarify learning and attention differences, identify appropriate accommodations, and develop strategies for academic and personal success.

  • Adults

Adults may seek evaluation to better understand longstanding difficulties with attention, learning, organization, or executive functioning. Our assessments provide diagnostic clarity, insight into individual strengths, and practical recommendations for navigating work, relationships, and everyday life.

Our approach

A person is more than one diagnosis, one score, or one difficulty.

Syntony, nounA state of being in tune, in harmony, or in alignment.

Every mind has its own unique pattern of strengths, challenges, and possibilities. At Syntony, we believe meaningful growth begins with understanding how those elements work together.

Our approach looks beyond diagnoses and test scores to understand the whole person. We recognize that difficulties do not always exist in isolation, but often emerge from the interaction between an individual's cognitive profile and the demands of their environment.

Our approach is grounded in the belief that every individual has a unique combination of strengths, abilities, and experiences that shape how they think, learn, and navigate the world. By understanding how these qualities interact with their environment, we can identify opportunities to build on strengths, address challenges, and create meaningful supports.

We believe that understanding the whole person creates opportunities for growth. Our goal is to help individuals recognize their strengths, develop confidence in their abilities, and use that understanding to navigate challenges and reach their potential.

Our story

Two paths that came back together.

Syntony began long before it had a name.

We first met during our postdoctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology, spending two years learning, collaborating, and developing our clinical identities side by side. Even then, we imagined building a practice together.

Our careers eventually took us in different directions, allowing each of us to develop distinct areas of expertise, perspectives, and professional experiences.

Years later, we found ourselves returning to that original vision, now with the experience and shared philosophy to bring it to life.

Syntony represents both that journey and the principles that brought us back together: the belief that meaningful understanding comes from recognizing how different strengths, experiences, and perspectives work in harmony.

What began as a shared vision has become a practice shaped by our complementary perspectives and a common belief in understanding the whole person, reflecting the very idea of Syntony: distinct strengths coming together in harmony.

Co-Founder
Licensed Psychologist | Neuropsychological & Psychoeducational Assessment

Education and training

  • Ph.D., School Psychology, Teachers College, Columbia University
  • B.A., Psychology and Italian Literature, Hunter College
  • Postdoctoral fellowship, pediatric neuropsychological assessment, Child Mind Institute, New York
  • Predoctoral internship, ANDRUS (Orchard School and Andrus Children's Center)

Dr. Alessandro Bellantuono is a licensed psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist who evaluates children and adolescents when there are questions about attention, learning, development, or emotional and behavioral functioning. Before cofounding Syntony Psychological Services, he spent more than seven years at the Child Mind Institute, where he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychological assessment and stayed on as a clinical neuropsychologist. He later held the same role at Growing Minds Psychology.

Dr. Bellantuono has particular expertise in ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, executive functioning difficulties, and emotional and behavioral regulation. His work centers on how cognitive, developmental, and emotional factors interact with one another, and with the demands of home and school, to shape learning, behavior, relationships, and everyday functioning.

His training as a school psychologist shapes how he evaluates, with the classroom and the family always in view. He takes particular care to help parents, teachers, and young people themselves recognize individual strengths, understand where learning and behavior come less easily, and see why.

He brings the same clarity to feedback and recommendations. Rather than leading with scores, he describes how a child thinks, learns, and approaches everyday tasks. He then works alongside parents and school teams, advocating for the supports a student needs, so that families know what to do first at home and teachers have guidance specific enough to carry out in the classroom.

Beyond assessment, Dr. Bellantuono offers individual psychotherapy and executive functioning coaching, so that young people and families can build practical strategies for home and school with a clinician who already understands their profile. Throughout, his aim is for each young person to be understood as a whole person and to move forward with greater confidence and independence.
